Every generation lives its era with new ideas and beliefs that are radically different from the previous generation. This results in a generation gap that will always exist forever. In fact the differences in opinion, beliefs and values create a void space between our parents and us that often lead to an atmosphere of turmoil and misunderstandings.
There Are Several Ways In Which We Are Different From Our Parents And Are Compelled To Set Our Own Trends To Make A Different Impact On The Society:
Introduction Of Technology
Technological advancements have given us emails and instant messengers that has changed our way of communication with our parents. The very concept of face to face communication has become obsolete because we are so immersed with new devices like mobiles and computers that have made us tech savvy and we spend little quality time with our parents. But such was not the case with our parents because they never had such technological advancements then as we have now. Now-a-days, even if we need to figure out anything we look up for it in Google but our parents always went for an interpersonal communication to share and receive ideas ad views.
Complicated And Stressful Life
In recent times, everyone is in a rat race to achieve something better than the other. This has led to more complicated and stressful life because we spend little family time. Such was not the case for our parents because for them achieving academic or professional excellence was not a battle of life.
No Time For Relations
For our parents, keeping good family ties was a top priority. In their era they could maintain quality family time even after academic and professional excellence and this is what they complain about us. As a matter of fact the concept of joint families existed more during our parent’s time which has dwindled in our times. We are so busy in our own lives that we easily let loose family ties that was built with great love and care by our parents.
Easy Acceptance Of Western Thoughts
Our parents and grandparents often complain about our adaptation to western thoughts and ideas. In fact the beliefs and values of our forefathers have been obediently carried forward by our parents and grandparents but have been led to a violation by the new generation. We find the age old beliefs to be superstitious and so tread the path of adopting western thoughts that we believe keeps us up to the minute.
More Educational Opportunities For Us
We mostly hear that our parents never had a wide scope in the field of education which we enjoy now. The various branches of study that we are exposed to were not a similar situation for our parents. In fact we even have the opportunity to go abroad to build a bright academic or professional future. Our parents received little of these opportunities. But today, we have parents who try to give their best to their only one irrespective of the high cost of education.
More Female Advancements
Our mothers and grandmothers belonged to a conservative society which offered little scope for girls. People of such a society held the view that women should never enjoy equal opportunities to that of men and so got them married at a tender age leaving them to do household chores. But we are lucky enough that are parents do not have such a mindset and encourage us at every stage of life to have equal opportunities to that of men to build a prospective future.
Though we mostly oppose the orthodox opinions of our parents, we eventually end up in following their insight to life. With age, our maturity helps us to choose between the acceptable and unacceptable views and opinions of our parents to lead a modernized but meaningful life. Every generation faces a different setup of the society which encompasses modern views along with orthodox views. But it is on every generation to strike a balance between these to make a better place for living in this world.
