When it comes to true mysteries, very few come close to the disappearances of a few well known, often renowned (either positively or negatively) individuals that we are about to state. Here we decipher 10 of the most unusual disappearances that have baffled people ranging from those in historian profession to ones in legal authorities to even general public. Although all these persons were officially declared dead, their bodies were never recovered.
Harold Holt, the 17th prime minister of Australia, went out to swim on Dec. 17, 1967 at Cheviot Beach near Portsea, Victoria and never came back. After vivid search efforts, he was officially “presumed dead”. Although many speculations arose as the cause of his presumed death, nobody could give an affirmative answer as his body was never recovered to analyse.
The 25 year old high class socialite Dorothy Arnold went missing on 12th December, 1910 from New York City. According to last witnesses, she went on shopping to get a suitable gown for a then upcoming party but never managed to come back home again. 6 months later, even after elaborate efforts from her wealthy family, she or her body was never recovered and was presumed dead afterwards.
Songwriter and guitarist of Manic Street Preachers, Richey Edwards, went unfound since 1st February, 1995. After checking out from the Embassy Hotel in London, he drove for his apartment in Cardiff. Although the 27 year old’s car was found more than a couple of weeks later, his body was found nowhere and was presumed dead.

An American businessman, Jim Thompson, was unheard of since March 1967. The 61 year old then was last seen in the Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. He was behind the revitalization of Thai silk manufacturing in the mid of 50s and 60s. Before his disappearance he was counted as one of the famous American who is existing in Asia. His disappearance is counted as one of the mysterious in that area. The largest land search was done in account of searching him.
All the above mentioned cases cause awe even in today’s people’s mind. Many of these above mentioned disappearances have inspired media sensations or even movies at some point.
